Processing

"The unexamined life
is not worth living." Socrates
Journaling is a process of
self-discovery and transformation. This is what I encourage in all my
readers, my students, and even my kids. It is empowering to take control
of our lives, make choices, and move in a beneficial, productive direction.
The deeper we know ourselves, the more genuine our lives become.
Coaching is also a process of self-discovery and transformation. Clients
discover that they have the right choices within them, and once they put
them into action, they are living more fully, more directly from who they
are, instead of being influenced by external forces. Coaching is another
empowering process.
As coaching clients move from being stuck in their creativity, career,
relationships or personal growth, I ask questions to speed them along.
Some of those questions are great for deeper journaling, too.
Next time you are writing, ask yourself:
'What exactly does that mean?' This will clarify what you are trying to
say, moving you towards self-knowledge.
'Was that helpful to me?' Find out if what you're doing is in your best
interest.
'Is that the truth?' Be completely honest with yourself.
The parallels between the processes of journaling and coaching are amazing!
Each time a client has an ah-ha, I'm warmed with the memory of my own
self-discovery, my own ah-ha's, and how they have helped create who I
am today. And with each client ah-ha, I know I've done my job well.
