My Future
by Earl G. Bell
This is the winning entry
of the March writing contest. The prize
was a month of personal/creativity coaching. See
Sunny Window Coaching
for more information.
The prompt was in two parts:
First:
"The future was plump
with promise." Maya Angelou
Write about your future.
Here are some questions to get you thinking.
-
What does your future
look like? Is it 'plump with promise'?
-
What does the bridge
to your future look like? Does it close the gap between here
and there, or does it not quite stretch across that gap?
-
Do you consciously move
into the future, or just flow into it?
Second:
Why do you want to win a
month of coaching? How would you benefit?
*
Below is Earl's entry.
I chose him, because he was very clear about what he wanted his future
to look like, and he understood the benefits of coaching.
My Future
I view my future as a vision. Having my book published and do very
good. Addressing groups of
people discussing how I choose the different topics and why.
I see my self at bookstores signing my book and having people invite
me as guest speaker motivating people with
some of the topics I have written about.
Being interviewed by radio stations, having to travel to different
cities promoting my book. I see my
book being a success for two reasons. One,
because it will help people acknowledge how too often we simply do not
realize how much our actions and the words
we use can hinder them. Second, my
book will give them direction, so they will want to achieve. There
is no reason why it should not make the bestseller list. I will
not settle for anything less.
Why do I want to win a month of coaching, and how will I benefit? Remembering
back in my school days when I wanted to give up, my coach saw something
in me to push me on. He knew that I had what it took to win but
just lacked confidence in myself.
A coach can help me to not only stay on course
but also, perhaps bring out in me more ideas, to keep me thinking.
I will benefit by knowing that someone
else cares enough to keep encouraging me
on.

Second and third place winners
are Dena Dyer and Nancy Reed, and honorable mention goes to Gloria Campos.
They all receive two coaching sessions. Congratulations to everyone,
and thank you for sharing your thoughts with me! I look forward
to working with all of you!
